DPT vaccination

DTP is the adsorbed diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus vaccine, and therefore, the vaccination protects against three terrible infectious diseases.

The more dangerous whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus for the child, and why it is better to be vaccinated and to get an artificial immune system, rather than recover and “earn” a natural immunity.

  • Diphtheria causes severe toxic complications such as toxic shock, polyneuritis, nephrosis, myocarditis and blockiage of the airway.
  • Tetanus causes serious lesions of the nervous system leading to the emergence of generalized tetanic convulsions.
  • Whooping cough, especially in the first year of life can cause sleep apnea (breathing cessation) and lead to death. The disease is characterized by attacks of spasmodic cough threatening the state of severe hypoxia as well as the development of seizures and hypoxic encephalopathy.

Adverse reactions may occur after vaccination even with modern high-quality vaccines but they are short lived. Compare the following statistics of light side effects to those of severe complications:

Among the pulmonary adverse reactions in 1 out of 4 children there is fever, discomfort, swelling and redness at the injection site. In 1 out of 10 children there is no appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and sleepiness.

  • Adverse reactions of moderate severity, such as seizures, occur in 1 child out of14 500 children. One child out of 15 000 has an increase in temperature above 39.5 °C.
  • Serious allergy to components of the vaccine will be seen in 1 child per million and severe neurological damage caused directly after vaccination is extremely rare. Thus it is impossible to establish their relationship with the side effects of the vaccine.

All possible mild and moderate reactions of the body to the vaccine are normal signals of the formation of immunity. If there are not any manifestations of side effects, it means that you and your doctor managed to minimize all possible complications. The main task is to prepare competently for the vaccination. Check with your child’s doctor or pediatrician at our medical center , carefully read the Tips for parents and guidance on preparing to vaccinate , as well as the section Frequently Asked Questions , where you will find answers to your concerns.

Integrated DPT given repeatedly at strictly defined intervals (at least 30 days within the primary rate) is to be observed.
